Claire Cawthorne
Senior Physiotherapist
BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, UWE – 2005
Claire brings over 18 years of senior musculoskeletal physiotherapy experience, having worked extensively within the Bristol Royal Infirmary and University Hospitals Bristol. Her clinical practice is grounded in strong evidence-based principles and refined through years of experience in a dynamic teaching hospital environment.
Over the years Claire has developed advanced assessment and treatment skills across a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. She has undertaken specialist training in areas such as Functional Biomechanics of Running, Shoulder Theory and Practice, and APPI Pilates, continually enhancing her clinical expertise.
Claire has a particular interest and highly specialist experience in upper limb rehabilitation – especially conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and elbow – through her work with the BRI Hand Unit. Her recent work as a Specialist Practitioner in the BRI Fracture Clinic involved managing acute injuries—both virtually and in-person—including interpreting X-rays and treating fractures and soft tissue injuries.
Claire takes a holistic approach to treatment, tailoring her care to each individual. She combines hands-on techniques like joint mobilisation and soft tissue massage with targeted exercise therapy, while also promoting overall physical and mental well-being to support long-term recovery and a healthy lifestyle.
With a background in competitive netball, hockey, running, and swimming, Claire has a deep understanding of sports biomechanics, muscle imbalances, and rehabilitation. She continues to enjoy playing competitive netball weekly and stays active at the gym.
Outside of work, Claire enjoys spending time with her husband and three young children. She’s also a keen gardener, often found nurturing flowers and vegetables in her spare time.
